Section 4 - Discussion: Action Goals & Barriers
4.1. Action Goals & Barriers
In an ideal world, once you have identified your “action” goals, it would just be a matter of you executing your plan and you would be living a purposeful life. But the world doesn’t always accommodate you and your plans, right?
In pursuing your “action” goals, you may find yourself running into unexpected barriers or conflicts. And despite having strong purpose and “be” goals, constantly running into barriers can lead to discouragement. However, recognizing potential barriers now can help reduce challenges and discouragement in the future.
Please think about the following questions and consider sharing your responses with your fellow learners:
Are there current activities or situations in your life that might conflict with enacting your “action” goals?
There are current activities and situations in my life that conflict with enacting my “action” goals, as follows:
I don’t always sleep consistently due to issues with insomnia and sleep apnea, as such I don’t wake up consistently and I do not end up doing things that would help me to be more grounded and balanced. I don’t end up meditating or journaling in the morning, for example;
My depression often results in my not eating properly, or getting outside for walks in nature. It also interferes with my ability to to do the things I love;
My eating habits are poor which contributes to poor health, and having a lack of energy; and
I procrastinate by wasting time on social media as opposed to finishing this exercise for example.
What changes might you need to make in order to pursue your “action” goals?
Changes I might need to make in order to pursue my action goals include:
Adopt a better sleep schedule;
Make myself go to bed and get up at the same time daily;
Develop the things I want to do in life into regular habits in my life; and
Develop a more positive mindset and attitude towards myself and my goals.
